Overallobjectives and requirements
Overall objectives It aimsto train medical undergraduates with solid medical knowledge, standard clinicalskills, good professional qualities and basic abilities to work in clinicalsettings, to lay the foundation for their further study and their futuredevelopment in medical research and health administration.
Basic requirements It aimsto develop moral ethics, professional qualities, mental stability, dedicationand sense of responsibility for medical cause and human well-being. It aims todevelop the knowledge of humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, the respectfor individual beliefs, life and law, as well as team spirit and creativity.Students are to master basic medical knowledge, and fundamental theories andskills. It aims to develop scientific and critical thinking, the ability toindependently acquire knowledge, raise questions, analyze questions and resolvequestions, as well as the ability of lifelong learning and self-development.Students are to basically master Chinese language and knowledge of China and Chineseculture.
Professional objectives and requirements
Professional objectives It aimsto train medical professionals with systematic knowledge of basic and clinicalmedicine and clinical expertise in diagnosis and treatment, capable of treatment,prevention, and health care work in health institutions.
Professional requirements Studentsstudy theoretical knowledge of basic medicine, clinical medicine and preventivemedicine, receive skills training, and develop independent learning, lifelong learningand the ability to work in clinical medicine, prevention and health care.

Requirements for professional qualities
Professionalism, respect for life andhealth, notion of patients coming first and healing the wounded and rescuing thedying, medical virtues and devotion to medical cause and human health;
Legal awareness, practice of medicine inaccordance of the law and the ability to protect the rights of patients andthemselves by law;
Professional ethics and cultural accomplishment,consciousness to uphold medical ethics, care for patients and respect forpatients and their individual beliefs during medical practice;
Commitment to scientific methods, teamspirit, ability of life-long learning and pursuit of scientific truth andinnovation;
Basic knowledge of Chinese language and theability to apply it in medical practice and understanding of China and Chineseculture.
Requirements for professional knowledge
Knowledge of humanities, social sciences andnatural sciences and the ability to apply the knowledge in medical practice;
Normal structure and function of the bodyand normal mental state;
Knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth, pre-nataland post-natal care and family planning;
Etiologyand pathogenesis ofcommonand frequently-occurring diseases and factors for disease formationand development;
Clinical manifestations, diagnosis andtreatment principles of common and frequently-occurring diseases, and featuresof Traditional Chinese Medicine;
Fundamental knowledge of pharmacology and principlesof rational drug use;
Patterns of the occurrence, development and spreadof infectious diseases, and prevention and control principles for commoninfectious diseases;
Epidemiology, principles of health educationand disease prevention, and knowledge of disease and disability relief, rehabilitationand end-of-life care.
Requirements for professional skills
Ability to take a medical history, toperform a systematic physical and mental examination and to write medical records;
Ability to diagnose and treat common andfrequently-occurring diseases in internal medicine, surgery, ob-gyn, pediatrics,etc., and to apply proper diagnosis and treatment;
Ability to diagnose and treat emergencies;
Ability to exercise clinical judgment and topractice medicine applying Evidence-Based Medicine;
Ability to communicate with patients andtheir families and to have patients cooperate and to communicate with otherdoctors and medical staff;
Ability to understand research methods ofclinical medicine and to conduct researches based on medical practice, and to uselibrary and modern information technology to research on medical problems andacquire new knowledge and relevant information;
Ability to educate patients and the public inhealthy lifestyle, disease prevention, etc.;
Major disciplines and main courses
Major disciplines Basicmedicine and clinical medicine.
Main courses Anatomy, histology and embryology,physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology,microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, pathology, hygienics, physicaldiagnostics,medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics,internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology,pediatrics, neurology, infectious diseases, emergency medicine.
Practice Mainlyclinical clerkship and internship for not less than 70 weeks.
Period of study
6 years.

Graduation internship
Graduationinternship is scheduled in the 10th, 11th and 12thsemesters, of 70 weeks with 16 weeks of internal medicine, 16 weeks of surgery,6 weeks of obstetrics and gynecology, 6 weeks of pediatrics, 2 weeks of emergency,1 week of prevention, 1 week of nursing and 20 weeks of specialized internshipor internship in home country, 2 weeks of orientation and 2 weeks ofassessment. The assessment is specified separately.
Teaching Arrangement
Schooltime totals to 306 weeks, with 158 weeks of teaching, 20 weeks of exam, 2 weeksof enrolment and graduation orientation, 70 weeks of graduation internship, 48weeks of vacation and 8 weeks of flexible time. Teachingperiods total to 3713 and credits total to 276.5, with 3506 periods and 191.5credits of required courses, 255 periods and 12.5 credits of elective courses,70 credits of graduation internship and 3 credits of graduation examination (oftheories and skills). Assessmentand degree conferment
Assessment Requiredcourses are assessed with either examination or evaluation. Credits are obtainedwhen the course is passed. Results are measured with hundred-mark system. Examinationis arranged by the university and Evaluation is conducted at the end of thecourse by each teaching and research division. Elective courses are assessed atthe end of the course by each teaching and research division and credits are awardedwith a pass. The assessment of each course should be based on the syllable. Clinicalinternship and other practices are assessed by each clinical medical schoolwith skill and theory exams organized by each teaching and research division.
Inaddition to the assessment of each course, students must also pass graduation exams,which are scheduled in the 12th semester, including clinical skill examand theoretical exam.
Graduation and degree conferment Studentswho complete and pass all the courses required in the curriculum, obtain requiredcredits for elective courses, pass graduation exams and meet the graduation requirementsshall be allowed to graduate. Studentswho meet the requirements in “PRC Degree Regulations” and “Fujian MedicalUniversity Bachelor Degree Conferment Regulations” shall be granted Bachelor of Medicine& Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
