International Students of OEC Won 3 Prizes in the 1st National Clinical Thinking and Skills Competition for InternationalMedical Students

On December 9, the first Clinical Thinking and Skills Competition for InternationalMedical Students—the "Study in China" series of activities sponsored by China Association for International Education(CAFSA) was held in Tianjin Medical University. A total of 26 teams participated in the competition. The competition aims to enhance the clinical skills of internationalmedical students in China, develop a good studyatmosphere, cultivate internationally qualified medical professionals of Chinese brands and especially assesses their clinical thinking and basic skills. Four international students of the six-year MBBS program (taught in English) majoring in Clinical Medicinein Grade 2012——Maryam Mwita Mgeni (Chinese name: Ma Liya, female, American), Zainab Mwita Mgeni (Chinese name: Ai Na , female, Tanzanian), Juma Othman Juma (Chinese name: Qiao Ma, male, Tanzanian) and Yanagon Mahathep (Chinese name: Li Zhiqiang, male, Thai)——participated in this competition. After a day of intense competition, our team entered the final with excellent results in the preliminaries. In the final, it showed its competitiveness; especially in the round of comprehensive first aid, itachievedoutstanding performance in regard to teamwork, clinical skills and humanistic care. In the end, our team won two top awards for teams, namely the Best Teamwork Award and the Excellent Team Award. Meanwhile, Zainab Mwita Mgeni (Chinese name: Ai Na), a Grade 2012 Tanzanian student, won an Excellence Performance for Ob/Gyn Skills. All excellent results achieved by the international students are the best birthday gift for the eightieth anniversary of the university. It fully demonstrates the university’s traditional way of attaching importance to quality education.

The contestants were selected from the Grade 2012 MBBS students and were instructed and coached by the team of teachers from the School of Clinical Medicine at Affiliated Union Hospital of FMU.
